The Truth As I See It Introduction I love the written word. Ever since I was nine years old I knew that I wanted to write. I still remember the first real novel I ever read, and the impact that novel still has over my life. Somehow, life, love, and discontentment squeezed itself in between the coils of Gods purpose for my existence. I buried my dreams. Whatever the case, it doesnt matter anymore. What is important is that I am here now and oh how happy I am to be exactly where I am, introducing myself to you. I commit to the integrity of my thoughts soulfully arranged on paper. I know this is the first you may have heard of me, but it wont be the last. This is my dream, not to write poetry, but to tell stories. Stories that bruise, scab over, and finally heal as though there was never a bruise. There were so many nights I lay awake crying and thinking about what it really meant to be a woman, a mother, a sister, a daughter, a member of society, and most importantly a child of God. I thought it was insomnia (smile), but it was purpose calling out to me. Finally, I put pen to paper and I let my fingers tap incessantly across my keyboard until the joy and pain within poured out of my spirit. I offer to you my stories in the form of poetry & prose. ABOUT NAKIA

Nakia R. Laushaul

Welcome to my literary journey!

Nakia was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and now resides in Houston, Texas with her son. She is employed as a Finance Administrator for a furniture retailer. She is an inspirational poet, novelist, and entrepreneur. In her free time she enjoys performing and listening to spoken word poetry. Nakia has always loved to read and early on in life guessed that writing would play a major role in her future. Nakia's career pursuits in writing did not come without obstacles. Finally, all the bottled-up imagination and thoughts that needed to be expressed on paper came pouring out.Inspired and fueled by attempts to be molded into the norm, she wrote and published her first collection of poetry and essays titled, The Truth As I See It: In Poetry & Prose which was released in early 2010 by Serendipity Bound Books. Running from Solace, her debut fiction novel was released in April 2011. Nakia remains determined to present the truth as she sees it in all facets of her writing, and hopes that her work will inspire and serve a meaningful purpose for her readers. She is committed to challenging everyone in her reach to find compassion and empathy in the differences that exist among us all. Nakia is currently working on her second novel titled, Do You Know Daisy McCloud? Nakia truly believes that by doing what you love, you become happy! Go find your happiness.

I have an eye for the truth,

a heart to inspire,

and a voice that I am not afraid to use.
